king of the arctic urn

This was an urn made for the family of my friend Norbert Untersteiner. I met Norbert and his wife Krystyna over dinner that they hosted in their condo by Green Lake, Seattle. Our conversations were mostly about woodworking, and it was not until later that I learned of Norbert's achievements in geophysics, and that he was known as the "King of the Arctic Ice." The inlay is made to resemble a reflecting iceberg. Made from Gaboon ebony and American Holly. Click on any picture to view full size
